New Painting in Progress: Conewago Creek I

I am posting a new work in progress! Spring has inspired me to return to the easel! I actually like this painting so far, so I am going to post it before I kill it.
I decided to go back to basics and paint small. This is a 16x20 pre-stretched canvas that I picked up on sale. I like to keep a bunch of these around so I always have something to paint. I tinted this canvas with some of the new Golden acrylic paint. I used Vat Orange. I did not paint on location. Due to some personal safety issues, I drove around a took photos of the creek . (There are some "interesting" people that live near the creek) I had these photos around for a while and finally decided to try to paint one.
This is the result of one evening's work. I worked a couple of hours on Wednesday night. I like the freshness of this painting. I have some "finishing" work to do, but I don't want to do too much. I think I tickled the death out of that last painting I posted.
As always, your thoughts and criticisms are appreciated. Don't take too long. Get out and enjoy the spring weather!

What finish? Leave it like it is(my opinion)! Love the atmosphere in your painting and the glow over this landscape.

It's beautiful Anita!

Wow, Neetzy! This is my favourite of all the paintings of yours that I have seen. The colours remind me of an oil painting in my living room, but the subject reminds me of a pair of watercolours we own by a contemporary of the Group of Seven.
It is gorgeous! If I had big bucks, I'd happily offer you a small fortune for it! (Sadly, I do not.)

Such a beautiful place. How sad that you didn't feel safe there.

Really like that vat orange underpainting! And I think this painting is just perfect the way it is. It's wonderful!

Jeannette,
Thanks. I just want to clean up the foreground trees a bit. I'm not going to touch the water. The glow comes from the vat orange underpainting!

Shaz, Thanks sis.

Kat,
Thanks. I like this one too. It was only a 2-hour painting. I think I'll do more of these to keep them loose and spontaneous. I do love that group of seven. Hah!

Snowbrush! Thanks for visiting. My daughter had a friend who lived on the creek. She moved. I would feel safe on private property (but I need permission). This is close to my house, but the public areas are kind of scary. I drove around and took lots of photos.

Janelle,
I discovered the Vat Orange in my abstraction class. I always liked a warm toned underpainting. This is the best!

Hey Neetzy,
I've been checking your postings and thanks for visiting mine. Yeah we're neighbors. I'm in Harrisburg. Your paintings are great. I get a fauvist feel. Great color. Not to mention we both like Tony Rice and Coltrane. Cool to see another Tony Rice junkie!

Thanks Brian,
I love getting feedback on my paintings from other artists. Your paintings look very familiar to me! I like your thick, juicy application of paint. I've been experimenting with lots of different "stuff" this year.

And I thought I was the only person in central PA who heard of Tony Rice!

I'm back again, because I went to Michaels and they don't have vat orange - is it an abbreviation? Is it one of the irredescent Golden acrylics?

Jeannette, I did get mine at Michaels, but they had a limited selection. It is color #2403, Series 8. You might want to order it from Blick or Cheap Joes. Check out Golden's link below for more information: http://www.goldenpaints.com/products/color/index.php
I hope this helps! It's a great color!

Hi Neetzy!
I love the way you painted the spaces between the branches and the distant water reflection. Nice. Thanks for visiting my blog too.

Loving it! Also the love seeing the color of the toned canvas showing through. This might be my favorite. :)

Hi Loriann,

I love spaces between branches more than anything in the world!

Hi Barbara,

I worked on this one a little more today. I also started another 20x20 of the same creek from a different angle. I like this creek! I used the same underpainting color. It's challenging to use an orange underpainting for a spring scene. It is probably more typical for fall, but once I get the paint on there, the warmth seems to come through. That's what I'm going for!

Ooooooh, That's gorgeous, Neetzy!
That water is just delicious!

Shame about the local Deliverance extras, but a wonderful painting.

Dive,
Thanks and I don't want to "squeal like a piggy". The creek seems to attract some characters.
