The June Forest

I was tired of looking at my lame mother's day post. I'm sorry. It was ranty, boastful, crap. I wanted to post something funny. I didn't. I couldn't upload the cartoon I wanted. My intended post morphed into unintended ranty crap. Sorry.

Anyway.

I found a painting not previously posted. This was painted on location in the woods near my house. It was about 90 degrees that day but cooler in the shade. I armed myself with bug spray and painted for a couple of hours in the woods. This is my preferred method for painting landscapes. Sometimes circumstances prevent the purist plein air.

I gave this to my brother and his wife for a wedding present. I did have a giclee print made. These are wonderful records. I can sell the giclees at a lower price and I can "eat my cake and have it too." I will have a wonderful copy of my painting.

By the way, click on this image. You will see the actual brush strokes. I hope you find them more satisfying than my poor excuse for cropping this image. (Great taste, less filling!)

Love this painting!
Hey it's your blog, you can ramble, rant or whatever you feel like doing at the moment!! No need for apology:)
What you call "rant" I call "journal," and I journal a lot,LOL.

There was nothing wrong with your Mother's Day post sis. Blogs are for expressing yourself!

Jeannette and Shazza,

Thanks. When I re-read it I didn't like it. It seems that I started with one thought, I was looking for an appropriate cartoon/illustration on the internets (which took so much time I consumed at least two glasses of wine...) Needless to say, I did not recognize the post I published.

I should be one of those persons who writes things out ahead of time! Nah.

Wonderful painting, such great colors. I missed your mothers day post but went back and read it. Don't apologize, it was great.

Just another thought - when I look at this painting I can actually see the sun peaking through the leaves and feel a nice soft breeze blowing.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh...I'm feeling very relaxed.

Thanks sis!

Thanks Barbara. This was a great painting to revisit!

Shazza, Thanks again. There are some things you can capture on location more effectively than from a photo.

I can feel the heat shimmering in that painting.

I agree with Shazza, I thought your Mother's Day post was okay. A good rant never does anybody any harm (speaking as an occasional ranter, myself).

I love this painting too! It's your colour choices that really grab me. Of course, I'm partial to the woodsy scenes as well. Funny, I'm not one for people in paintings or photographs - rarely take those shots myself and have few in my home. I could happily fill my house with your work. (Put one in your will for me, would ya?)

Kat

P.S. What's a giclee print?

Maria,

It was in the nineties that day. It was a bit cooler in the woods.

Kat,

A giclee is basically a print. They use a special printer to get the colours right. They are an inexpensive reproduction. If you want one, let me know, I'll send one to you. They normally cost $30-40.00 (unframed). I can get them printed on paper or canvas. The gallery used to charge about $125.00 for one of these prints.

I love this painting too! I think to myself - this is where I'd like to be right now - when I study it. I ENJOY reading your blog posts. Keep it up and say whatever you want.

Jeanette,
Thanks so much for visiting! I am in the process of posting all my paintings. Some I like and some I don't. I do like getting feedback! I'd appreciate yours.

BTW I go on occasional rants... When I start I find that I cannot stop. If you find me ranting, I hope I don't offend you. I am a bit opinionated.

Kat,

I'll check you out. I lost you on Facebook somehow. I tried to send you a tag and found you were no longer on my friend list. I didn't delete you (at least not on purpose).

Janelle,

Thanks. It reminds me that I must get out and do more plein air paintings. There is something about painting on location that you can not reproduce in the studio. I pushed a wheelbarrow with all my supplies out to this spot. (I think I might invest in a golf cart). It's not the walking, it's the hauling that gets to me.

You know how much I'm going to love this painting, Neetzy, so I won't ramble on and on about it like I sometimes do.
"Wow" will have to suffice, today.

And your Mothers' Day post was excellent! You've produced a pair of hugely talented and artistic (and cool) daughters and they are really lucky to have you as their mom.

Dive,

I missed you! I'm glad your back. You are a wonderful tonic for my low self-esteem.

Thanks Tom,

I'm glad you like it and I'm glad I have a picture of it. It is one of my faves.
