Moo for Shazza

I am skipping Sepia Saturday to post a painting. I have been meaning to post paintings for a while but have been experiencing either technical difficulties and/or lack of time. Since I am now in full acceptance of the realization that I can only post once a week, I am posting a bovine for Shazza.

Background: I first painted "Moo" when I was a resident artist at a Lancaster gallery. I had to crank out five to six paintings every other month for a year (while working full time and raising two children). Anyway, I painted this, hung it and "hated it". Although I measured, the head seemed disproportionately huge. That with the effect of the hidden hoofs made the animals appear awkward.

I revisited the painting before my March Elizabethtown show and decided to re-size the head a bit. Now I think it appears too small. (If you look carefully, you can see the ghost image of the old chin) Anyway, Shazza and quite a few other people liked it. This will be my contribution to my sister's new store! Visit her at her new blog. http://www.Idiosyncrazies.blogspot.com.

Well, I for one LOVE it! (I'm a big fan of cows, have I told you?)
Sorry you're not doing SS this week, but this was a worthy substitute.
Moo!!!

Glad you like the cows Kat! I've been trying to post a painting for weeks now. I've only had free time on Saturdays, so I posted this. Besides I have to get to my dad's to find more old pictures!

Has the opportunity to give the cow a big cheezy smile passed.

Of course not!

I always like cow images. I grew up on a farm and I think you got it pretty close to accuracy.

Thanks Maria,

I have no confidence in my cattle proportions. When I was a kid I used to draw horses all the time. Cows are so different!

Cool cows, Neetzy.
I love the arrangement of the legs and the shadows and sun on the grass below them.
It will look great in Shazza's new place.

Thanks Dive.
They were my first bovines. (I think they were steers, not cows, no udders).

Barbara and Nancy,

Thank so much. I do like the colors in this. School is over next week and I hope to have a little more time to post paintings!

I think it is a wonderful painting. The trend these days is to paint one cow and the artist says, hey I can paint a cow. Your's is very painterly and I like the composition. Nice job. I really wish life would quit being so busy that I could get back to painting.

L.D.,
Thanks for your kind comments! These guys made me laugh! I hoped to capture a little of their personality. I totally understand! I have a painting started that I have not visited for weeks. I have been too caught up with school and my own daughter graduating.
